Blogging & new friends!

This is me & my new friend, Amber. She is my new bootcamp buddy. Everybody say "Hi, Amber!" Hahaha.
Us after Bootcamp yesterday!! We are sooo sweaty! HAHAHA!
(Trust me, there is sweat on me too! I promise!)

Wanna know how I met Amber? It's a pretty cool story!! Once upon a time (late June), I got an email. It went a little like this:

"Hi, I just recently stumbled upon your blog via the Insulin Resistance Diet fan page.  I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your blog. Wish you had a fb fan page too. I just wanted to tell you that I am in the same boat that you are.  Last month found out that I am Insulin Resistant and also found out that I have a hypothyroid. Wow! After months of insisting that there was something wrong with me my doctor finally ran tests and didn’t find anything.  It was then that I decided to go to the Metabolic Center. The doctor ran a series of tests and what do you know!!! I went to see my obgyn and he happened to mention that I needed to buy the Insulin Resistance Diet book.  I purchased this yesterday. LOVE it so far!!!!!"

After that, she asked for details on Bootcamp & Zumba, saying that she is in Baton Rouge also & would love to have somewhere to workout since it's getting so hot out (she normally runs the lakes). I wrote back with the info & next thing I know we're writing back & forth! It seemed like we just hit it off right away, through email. I was so excited when she said she would come to bootcamp to try it out. She did & she loved it & now she is my bootcamp buddy. :) (My previous buddy went off & got married & hasn't come back! And i've been bootcamp buddy-less ever since! HA!)

We have a great time in bootcamp...laughing at each other & whining to each other. (I think it's important to have someone to whine to... Whining helps me. I'm just saying.) We also motivate (guilt?) each other into going when one of us doesn't feel like it!

The cool thing about this whole story is that when i wrote her back, I asked exactly what "insulin resistance diet fan page" she was talking about. I didn't recall putting my link on any site. I couldn't imagine what it could be! She said that on Facebook there's an IR Diet Fan Page & that apparently the person running it had found my blog & posted the link! CRAZY! I found the page myself, scrolled down some, & sure enough there it was! The person running the fan page said she found my blog (when googling Insulin Resistance, i later found out) & that she loved my attitude. (This made me feel good, because I know that I sometimes have a very stinky attitude!) She said i reminded her of herself when she was first diagnosed. :)

I found her website & it's pretty awesome, always giving new tips & information, specifically for those of us who are Insulin Resistant. Definitely check it out if you are IR or if you think you could be! It's loaded with info! (I can't link you to the FB fan page, because FB is blocked at work... but she has the link in the sidebar of her website.)

I let her know on the FB fan page that I am the person with the blog & thanked her for mentioning me! She now reads my blog regularly & comments advice for me. I have asked her to do this, so if you ever see her comment, please don't think she's being preachy! (She is "IR DIET INFO".) This gal knows her stuff - she has been researching it since she was diagnosed & that is exactly what I need in my life right now. Plus, i always welcome advice, as long as its given nicely. :) But we have been emailing too & I feel like I've made a friend in her as well. Love it!

Since starting this blog I have met some wonderful people. I LOVE that I have this blog. I always tell people that when i one day lose all this weight, if i am being interviewed by People magazine for their "half their size" issue, when they ask what helped me lose weight, i will say....

Wait for it....

BLOGGING!!! Ha!

Now, i KNOW i should say eating healthy or exercising. And I suppose those ARE the biggest things! But i don't know if i would have continued doing those things if I had not started this blog! Ya know? So much encouragement, motivation, accountability, love, support, good advice, etc. LOVE IT. Yes, there are the stupid things, like blogger not cooperating or mean anonymous comments or SPAM, but those things make up a very small percentage of my blogging experience. I get way too much love & support from this blog & I am SO THANKFUL.

It seems that since being diagnosed as Insulin Resistant, I have received more emails than usual from people who have had the same issue. They could never lose weight no matter how hard they tried. They finally discovered they were insulin resistant. They write me to thank me for this blog & to let me know that I am not alone. I LOVE IT! Amber was one. But I've received others as well (it's just that they don't live here!). I love getting those emails & even occasionally hearing in person that I've been able to help/inspire/encourage other people in their own journeys. I think that's what it's all about.

I am really thankful for ALL of my bloggie friends & I appreciate your sweet comments more than you know.

{GROUP HUG!}

2 little notes:

  1. Awwww! Thank you! What a lovely post! And a great story too. Yay for blogging! And hi to Amber :)

I also love that you can write well - it's always a pleasure to read. I'm sure the advice, help and support you get from everyone will keep you motivated as you progress with your weight loss. We look forward to sharing in your success.
